TRANSFORMATION

Sanyok Gallery is excited to present a new body of works by 2 Californian artists, Michal Tavrovsky and Jenny Belotserkovsky.

The artists were always fascinated with transformation, a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance. Transformation's dual nature draws a child-like attraction to sudden and swift changes in perception and comprehension of whether it's an illusion or reality. The painting is a transformer and a receptor broadcasting device that absorbs artist's ideas, creative energy and talent, and transforms it into a newborn reality and refracts it to other people.

Transformation brings another cycle of creation, life, and death. It has a subconscious impact on both artists. The before and after imprints of their associative memory are realized in their paintings with the goal of sharing their limitless perception of transformation, creativity, life, and their personal experiences with people.

Presenting New Works by Jenny Belotserkovsky and Michal Tavrovsky

Gadgets, computers, comics and legos are programming our minds, polluting our perception and clarity of vision. In the age when everything is transferred, custom made, and digested, the artist encounters the greatest challenge of all the times: "How can my art be a clean unpolluted elixir of truth without presenting cliche and false perceptions?"

Jenny Belotserkovsky and Michal Tavrovsky created a series of paintings where they achieved their goal: to be truthful, honest, and creative without any attempt to follow popular concepts and cliche. 

They named this exhibition "The World Without Programming." It presents 10 paintings by the 2 artists.

The idea of relocating to LA for the artists and gallery owners wasn't sporadic or spontaneous. The eminent gallery located in Sausalito and San Francisco was the artistic hub for young founders and entrepreneurs for many years since its founding in 2008.

British Artists of the 18th Century

The Golden Age of Britain started in the 18th century when British power expanded across all the oceans. London became the heart and brain not only of the British Empire but of the Old and New Worlds as well. Treasures from different countries, including China, India, and Japan, were pouring into London, thus making them available to British artists. British artists were free of all kinds of dogmas that interfered with the art and culture of other European countries. They were happy to explore and implement various colors, styles, and images that were brought to London by numerous merchants and traders. Attraction to countryside, nature, national and social values contributed to the genius of the most talented British artists Gainsborough, Reynolds, Turner, Ramsay.

Getting to comprehend the energy, spirit, and nature of British art of the 18th century was a very challenging task. The peculiarity of the styles, the intermingling of various trends, interwoven with art from other cultures, its wide range of expression, made it very difficult to single the main, powerful, and vital strands that enable the viewer to get the sense, essence, and core of British art of the 18th century. British art embraces everything worlds’ treasures can offer: beauty, splendor, lightness and depth, impressiveness, and joy. Everything is interwoven and nothing is lost.

Jenny Belotserkovsky and Michal Tavrovsky conveyed the glory of the British art with great love, talent, and awareness.

Byzantium: The Origins

The Art of Byzantium is one of the most mysterious and fascinating in the European culture. For many centuries the Art of Byzantium was considered barbaric and ultrareligious. The Byzantine Empire began in 324 when the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great founded Byzantium, the capital of Eastern Roman Empire. Since then, the art of Byzantium started to separate from classical traditions of Greece and Rome. Constantine the Great chose Christianity to be the official religion of the empire. The goal of the state and its artists was to express Christian ideas through Great art whose purpose was to help people survive, live, and have hope in the times of cruelties and sufferings. The general stylization and flattening of forms, which heightens the expression of intense spirituality – these are the main features of Byzantine Art.

Artists Jenny Belotserkovsky ad Michal Tavrovsky conveyed the spirit of Byzantium using modern art – abstract and precise. They were successful in doing it with great care and awe, following the same tradition – to give people hope, and love, and peace.

To transfer the Art of the Golden Age of Painting into the Art of Abstract Painting is a challenging and brave act.

The goal of the artists Jenny Belotserkovsky and Michal Tavrovsky was to create paintings which will be the keys to the mystery of Dutch Art. Franz Hals, Vermeer, Rembrandt were different worlds that had one common feature: humanity. Their love, admiration, and recognition of the human being to be loved and acknowledged made them the most appreciated Dutch artists by mankind.

About the Golden Age of Persia Exhibit

More than 25 centuries ago, Persia became the hub of the Greatest Empire the world had ever known. The contribution of Persia to the history and development of mankind is impossible to overestimate. The art, culture, architecture, and technology present a ginormous panorama of unique and astounding achievements the people of Persia achieved. 

Many cultures and nations lived in Persia, expressing their talents and creativity. The Persian civilization absorbed everything and created its masterpieces. The diversity and beauty of Persian Art is profound. 

This exhibit is inspired by the great art, architecture, and culture of Persian Art.

The Golden Age of Persia Installation is the second of a series of 5 exhibitions. Project "Swings" by Jenny Belotserkovsky and Michal Tavrovsky

Both artists were always fascinated with the whole idea of swings: the illusion of freedom – fear of heights - the moment of safety – the breathtaking second of embracing the whole world around you. 

Thereafter comes another cycle of life and death, illusion and reality, fear and escalation, sky and earth. This dual nature of swings, with child-like attraction to sudden and swift changes in perception, has subconscious impact on both artists. The imprints of their associative memory are realized in the series of paintings.

Fine Art Inspires Entrepreneurship In San Francisco

The art gallery system in America has been described as 70 percent male even though 70 percent of recipients of Masters of Fine Arts degrees are women. This imbalance might be enough to deter many women from trying to make their way into the art world. Not so, atSanyok Gallery in San Francisco. To admire the gallery’s more than 300 piece collection culled over 15 years, it may not be apparent that Sanyok was the realization of two savvy women who willed it into existence from their creativity, passion and drive.
Director Jenny Belotserkovsky and Owner Michal Tavrosky launched Sanyok in 2008. “We were the first to feature and specialize in idealistic abstractionism and romantic avant-garde,” Belotserkovsky said. “The most important challenge was to be sincere, honest and uncompromising when creating our art without conforming to societal standards and to be successful in selling it.” But running the business involves more than artistic vision. Both women contribute artwork and day-to-day management of the gallery.

When asked what job functions they performed, the co-founders replied, “Artists, curators, dealers, marketers, event planners, shippers, wherehouse and inventory managers, handymen, receptionists, and accountants.” But, not all jobs are equal. Jenny and Michal emphasize their responsibilities for charity above all, followed by building community.

The long-term goal of the entrepreneurs is to be able to focus more on the process of creating art while maintaining vision, creative control, and strategic growth of the gallery to other locations worldwide. The process of realizating their vision and seeing its impact on the community and people around them is the most rewarding.

Everyone familiar with Sanyok understands the unique artistic, social and entrepreneurial work of Belotserkovsky and Tavrosky. “The first years of a business are not about profit but about self-realization and expression,” said Belotserkovsky, who has a degree in economics from UC Berkeley and worked as an analyst at Venture Crown Capital as well as Credit Suisse and BE Technologies. Tavrosky ran many ventures with her father. But ultimately it was a sense of self-expression and social responsibility that led them to co-found Sanyok.

Residing in the San Francisco Bay Area, Greg is a patented inventor, technology enthusiast and intrepid journalist. He finds inspiration in diverse experiences, organizations, people and places — from restaurants to politics, movies, music and, most of all, his daughter.

Among the many kitschy art galleries that the average tourist visits in Sausalito, Sanyok Gallery delivers and impresses the masses with its non-consumerist collection of modern American art.

A new voice of artistic clarity, expression, and sensibility, Sanyok Gallery is in the pursuit of bringing emotion, authenticity, and humanness back to art. “When we launched Sanyok Gallery in Sausalito, our vision was to be the center of discovery of contemporary new art movements and directions. The Contemporary Fall Art Festival is slated for November 1 followed by Conquest, a solo exhibition by Miriam Ellingson, the pioneer of the 70s on November 10.

Andrew is a recent graduate of CCA, one of the most prestigious fine art programs in the country. His cool and precise style is in tune with the high-tech vibe, which gives an interesting chance in seeing the new trend of art and tech. Andrew’s merge of graffiti, street art, and high tech gives a very novel outlook on contemporary art.

Jenny Belotserkovsky

Jenny’s works are very innovative in their ability to convey very subtle borderline between abstraction and realism. With a slight tint of old-fashioned romanticism and mature grasp of color and form, she successfully achieves very bold and memorable images, which evoke feelings of joy, happiness, sadness, and loss.

Miriam Ellingson

For the art experts, the works of Miriam always present mystery and wonder. At the festival she will unveil her newest paintings, which will be presented to the public for the first time. As a true pioneer in contemporary art from the 70s, her work has always carried the unique aroma and signature of these times: exploration of different dimensions, multilayered ideas that can intertwine in a peculiar way to form the whole concept.

Naomi Miller-Wave

Naomi is widely recognized by prominent art collectors for her very authentic and sincere paintings. She is a young artist who is not afraid to show her inner conflicts and freedom of expression.

Maruis Starkey

Marius has a keen sense and knowledge of nature. You can see the slightest movements in water, leaves, and any matter, which is full of life and change. It is difficult to resist the temptation to get into any of his landscapes and enjoy to full capacity its vibes. His works have been shown at many museums including the Legion of Honor and de Young Museum.

Michal Tavrovsky

Michal Tavrovsky is an internationally renowned artist, who is well known in the US as well as in Europe.  Her works in Symbolic Kinetic Realism in 4D have been highly acclaimed in Russia, Switzerland, and France. You will get a chance to see some of her latest works in this controversial and extraordinary style.

Retrospective of Miriam Ellingson Art at Sanyok Gallery

Miriam Ellingson, a leading non-conformist artist, will present her best artworks at Sanyok Gallery.

The exhibit opening will be on October 23, 6-9pm.

Miriam is one of the very few artists from the 70's who were always non-conformist to the mass media culture, were not seeking popularity, and were always true to themselves.

Every painting of Miriam is the essence of her non-compromising outlook without any desire to please or to give somebody a candied image which can be easily swallowed. The world of Miriam is the world of abstract painting where every detail has been expressed through un-compromised feeling, thought, and image.

Throughout her long artistic life, she succeeded to remain young, genuine, and highly talented. She did not lose any bit of her integrity and expressiveness.

New Symbolism Review in Whitewall Magazine

Sanyok Gallery is currently showing “New Symbolism,” a collection of oil paintings by Jenny Belotserkovsky and Michal Tavrovsky. This show presents a new movement unique to the gallery: symbolic kinetic realism in 4D.

Symbolic kinetic realism 4D (SKR in 4D) is a new form of abstract art where the images  abstracted are subjective to the viewer. The four dimensions of this movement are line, shape, space, and time, time in the form of memory being the abstracted force. The vibrant, ethereal pieces found in “New Symbolism” feel personal as the abstractions go beyond interpretation to individual memories, thus instigating a narrative journey unique to each onlooker.

Tavrovsky, also the owner of the Sanyok Gallery, commented on SKR in 4D, saying, “The viewer   gets on a magic path which transfers him to a new dimension that broadens and renews his vision of the world and himself…You don’t tell a child how a kaleidoscope works, as all the magic will be  gone.”

Both Belotserkovsky and Tavrovsky go beyond the essential capacity of abstract as this transcending symbolism enables the viewer to create their own personal associations. The fourth-dimension is the nostalgic aspect as viewers connect with the depicted objects through space and time.

“New Symbolism” reminds us of what it means to be human. As Belotserkovsky stated, “Maybe God sees us through how we look in the 5th dimension.”

SPECIAL ONE NIGHT AT SANYOK GALLERY SF FEATURING THE PRINTS BY JON GARAIZAR.

John grew up in the suburbs, surrounded by isolated forests of half built track homes, canals, and streams of road ways and freeways, all sitting silently beneath a black blanket of stars. Perhaps it was this manufactured landscape that made much of his work concerned with emptiness, artificiality and sublime revelation. John feels that drawing is essential to the feeling he attempts to project and that he could not express it in any other way. His prints offer a removed and controlled ascetic on top of a natural achieved artificial appearance.

What John tries to communicate in his work is a general mood or feeling, and not so much a concept or direct statement. Each piece or set of pieces explores the same theme, a lonely character building journey. Each object holds a meaning or purpose to John and the arrangement or number of them of reflect different meanings. Although each image and each object in it has a deep personal meaning for John, he welcomes the viewers to put their own meanings in place of it. John is completing his studies at the Academy of Art University in S.F.

Sanyok Gallery: Michal Tavrovsky and Jenny Belotserkovsky – Grand Opening Art Soiree.

Review by Veronica Rivera (Tree): I have the pleasure of taking a drive out to beautiful San Francisco to enjoy the SF night life. At the top of the list is Sanyok Gallery, on Greenwich Street in the Marina District. The gallery opens its doors for the first time, welcoming guests to its grand opening exhibit, Art Soiree. On display is a collective array of works produced by San Francisco-based artists and founders of Sanyok Gallery Michal Tavrovsky and Jenny Belatserkovsky.

Upon, entering the two-story gallery, loft and artists” studios I”m greeted by the two hosts/exhibitors. They kindly introduce themselves and welcome me to the viewing. Right away a series of paintings catches my attention. One standout is called “Constellation of Power,” an oil painting done by Belatserkovsky, looking like an artistic depiction of the cosmos illuminating in red and orange tones, dazzling against the white walls.

I journey on to the rest of the exhibit where a variety of works by a number of artists are positioned throughout the entire space. The lighting creates a nice ambiance, complimenting the artworks immensely. Along the way I observe a still-life titled “Picnic,” whimsical looking fairylands painted in soft pastels and watercolors, portraits and figure drawings, and other mixed-media works. The gallery offers art lovers a large collection of works to choose from. Sanyok is open by appointment only so please make sure to call and schedule an appointment before visiting.

Review by RWM: Nice variety of work by Michal Tavrovsky and Jenny Belatserkovsky, most of which are inspiring abstracts with color schemes that will awe the viewer. Other artists also contribute and share their art, the selection generally more subdued than Tavrovsky”s and Belatserkovsky”s colorful compositions. Seeing the artworks presented in an actual home gives viewers an excellent idea of how they”ll look in domestic settings– where many of them will likely end up.

Proceeds will go towards young athletic scholarship programs sponsored by the Jewish Sports Hall Of Fame.
